Thiol‐ene emulsion polymerization using a semi‐continuous approach

The thermally initiated thiol-ene emulsion polymerization of diallyl phthalate (DAP) diene and ethylenedioxy diethanthiol (EDDT) dithiol monomers in batch semibatch is investigated. process leads to larger broader particle sizes than when the carried out semibatch. evolution size final distribution indicate that stability latexes limited and, hence, aggregation phenomena occurred both processes. In particular, (PSD) indicates nucleation, growth, occurring simultaneously produced a bimodal size. When monomer was changed terephthalate (DATP), yielded smaller particles narrow without any indication aggregation. partial substitution by trithiol substantially more water insoluble affected nucleation particles, yielding for systems particles. polythioether polymers synthesized present low glass transition temperatures (~ −30/−40°C) those containing therephthalate yield crystalline films. potential application as pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) preliminarily assessed.
